The Cause of Christ

Do you ever think of eternity? The ‘afterlife’? Heaven?

I have been reading in Philippians over the past few days. I have been blown away by what Paul declares in chapter 1 and chapter 3. He says things like “To live is Christ” and “For the sake of Christ”. Do I fully understand what those statements mean? Absolutely not. I am still learning, daily and in every moment. But what I see recurring in this section of scripture is something potent, something life changing, or even better: Destiny Changing.

Paul goes on to say in Philippians 3.7 “But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ – the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. I want to know Christ – yes, to know the power of His resurrection and participation in His sufferings, becoming like Him in His death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead.”

I think the heavens rejoice every time that scripture is read. Each and every time. There is something powerful in proclaiming the Word of God. There is something even more powerful when we activate our faith with that Word, because the two mesh as one. Paul, a man full of faith, knew what he was saying when the Spirit inspired those words. He knew that the things on this earth that we see have no value, nothing anywhere close to being as highly valuable as KNOWING Christ. He called it the ‘surpassing worth’ of knowing Christ. Meaning that anything I may place a priority on, Christ supersedes it…always.

I get such courage from these words. I read that, and got so pumped up. No matter what life may deal, I have one mission: To KNOW Jesus. And to be KNOWN by Him. My job, my financial circumstance, my dreams, my friends and family all must take the back seat. My Number One is the Lord Himself. Everything else will align under Him.

I get it, this may sound depressing or absurd. But to me, I find such a unique beauty in this. God is seeking a heart that is completely dedicated and sold out to Him, and in return He can use that heart to accomplish much more. Submission to God is true freedom.

Let’s face it, nothing on this earth will outlast His Love. Nothing can be taken from the earthly to the heavenly, so I learn to die to myself more and more everyday. Asking God one question, how can I serve You my Lord?
